Muskego Warriors Defensive End Drill: Building Speed and Power
Defensive ends at 7A programs like Muskego Warriors need to be explosive off the line of scrimmage. To improve this, Coach Thompson recommends the 'Speed Bag Drill'. Set up a series of small, weighted medicine balls along a 5-yard line. Players start in a 3-point stance, then explosively jump forward, picking up a medicine ball with their outside hand. They must immediately transition into a pass rush, using their inside hand to swipe at an imaginary quarterback. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'Fast feet, fast hands' and 'Finish with your eyes on the quarterback'. This drill translates to game performance by improving a DE's ability to quickly change direction and generate power off the line.
