Defensive End Dominance: The 'Rip and Rebound' Drill
As the Muskego Warriors prepare for the upcoming season, defensive end players can improve their technique with the 'Rip and Rebound' drill. This drill focuses on explosive power and speed, essential for dominating on the edge. Set up two cones 10 yards apart, with a third cone 5 yards beyond the second. Players start at the first cone, then rip through the second cone, focusing on a quick, inside step and a powerful extension of their arms. After 'ripping' through the cone, players rebound by immediately changing direction and sprinting back to the first cone. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'rip like a snake' and 'rebound like a spring.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a defensive end's ability to quickly change direction and generate pressure on the quarterback.
