Boosting Kicking Distance: A 5A Program's Pre-Season Drill

๐Ÿ“ Kaukauna GhostsยทTuesday, July 28, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At top 5A programs like Kaukauna Ghosts, kicking specialists know the importance of building power and accuracy. To improve their game-day performance, Ghosts' coaches have developed a targeted drill for their kickers. The 'Power Step-Up' drill involves 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. On each rep, the kicker starts in a 3-point stance, takes 3 steps back, and then explosively steps up onto a small box or bench (approximately 12 inches high). As they step up, they focus on keeping their back straight, engaging their core, and driving their legs. This drill translates to game performance by increasing the kicker's ability to generate power and maintain balance under pressure. By incorporating this drill into their pre-season routine, kickers can expect improved distance and accuracy on their kicks.
