Route Running Mastery: A Drills for AAAA Wide Receivers

๐Ÿ“ Morgantown MohigansยทSaturday, July 4, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Wide receivers at AAAA programs like Morgantown Mohigans need to be precise and explosive in their route running. One drill to improve this is the '5-Step Quick Release' drill. Set up five cones in a row, spaced 5 yards apart. Start at the first cone and perform a 5-step drop, focusing on quick footwork and proper body positioning. At the fifth cone, release the ball to a target (coach or receiver) 10 yards downfield. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick release and accuracy. Coaching cues include 'quick feet, eyes on the target, and release the ball at the highest point.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a receiver's ability to quickly separate from defenders and make accurate throws.
