Blue Devil Block Party: A Pre-Season OL Drill for St. Marys
As the St. Marys Blue Devils prepare for another championship run, their OL coach has developed a drill to improve blocking technique and strength. The 'Block Party' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps: players line up in a 3-point stance, 10 yards apart, with a focus on proper footwork and hand placement. On the coach's signal, players explode forward, aiming to hit a target on the defender's chest. Coaching cues include 'Drive your feet' and 'Hit with your hands.' This drill translates to game performance by improving OL's ability to quickly close the distance and deliver a powerful block. By incorporating this drill into their pre-season training, the Blue Devils can build a dominant OL unit that can control the line of scrimmage and pave the way for their star running backs.
