Cardinals' OL Camp Focus: Building a Stronger Anchor
As the Spring Mills Cardinals prepare for the upcoming season, their coaching staff has emphasized the importance of developing a dominant offensive line. One key drill has been the focus of recent practices: the 'Power Position' drill. This exercise is designed to improve the linemen's ability to maintain a strong anchor position in the face of a defender's rush. The drill involves the OL player starting in a three-point stance, with a focus on keeping their heels down and their weight evenly distributed between both feet. The coach provides a cue of 'chicken wings' to remind the player to keep their elbows close to their body. Players perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by allowing the OL player to maintain control and balance in the face of a defender's rush, ultimately leading to improved pass protection and running game success.
