Lock Down the Opposition: Bridgeport Indians CBs Focus on the 'Shadow' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Bridgeport IndiansยทSaturday, July 11, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, CBs at AA programs like Bridgeport Indians can improve their footwork and reaction time with the 'Shadow' drill. To set up, have the CB player start in a backpedal position, with their eyes focused on the quarterback. As the coach or trainer moves into the 'shadow' position, the CB must quickly close the distance and mirror their movements. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'mirror their steps' and 'stay light on your feet.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing CBs to quickly close on receivers and stay in phase with the quarterback's drop. It also enhances their ability to read the offense and anticipate the ball's location.
