FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Tight End Dominance with the 'Devil's Catch' Drill
At top programs like St. Marys Blue Devils, tight end production is crucial to a championship run. To dominate in the red zone, we're introducing the 'Devil's Catch' drill. This exercise focuses on the tight end's ability to secure passes in traffic. Set up cones to form a 5-yard box, with two defenders at the top and two at the bottom. The tight end will start at the bottom of the box, run a 3-yard out route, and then cut back to the top of the box. The quarterback will throw a 5-yard pass to the tight end, who must fight off defenders and secure the catch. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cue: 'Catch it with your eyes, not your hands.' This drill translates to game performance by replicating the tight end's ability to make plays in tight spaces.
