Quarterback Readiness: The '5-Step Drop' Drill
As the summer heat intensifies, AAAA programs like Morgantown Mohigans are fine-tuning their quarterbacks for the upcoming season. One essential drill to add to your training regimen is the '5-Step Drop.' This drill enhances footwork, accuracy, and decision-making, translating to improved game performance. The setup: quarterbacks line up 10 yards deep, with a target 10 yards downfield. On the snap, they drop back 5 steps, planting their back foot and throwing to the target. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on proper footwork and follow-through. Coaching cues: 'Drop back, plant, and throw' and 'Keep your eyes on the target.' This drill helps quarterbacks develop muscle memory for the 5-step drop, a crucial aspect of many plays. By mastering this fundamental, quarterbacks will be better equipped to read defenses and make accurate throws under pressure.
