Thunder Basin Bolts Tight End Training Tip: Route Running with a Twist

๐Ÿ“ Thunder Basin BoltsยทSaturday, July 4, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Thunder Basin Bolts prepare for the upcoming 4A season, tight end players will need to be sharp on route running to outmaneuver defenders. One effective drill to improve this skill is the 'Twist and Go' route. Set up cones in a zigzag pattern, 10 yards apart. Have the TE start at the first cone, then twist their body to run a sharp cut to the next cone. After completing the cut, immediately accelerate to the next cone. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include: 'Twist on the ball,' 'Cut with your feet,' and 'Accelerate to the next point.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching TEs to quickly change direction and speed, creating separation from defenders. By incorporating this drill into their summer training, the Bolts' TEs will be ready to make plays down the field.
