Boosting Kicking Performance: The 3-Step Approach Drill

๐Ÿ“ Cheyenne Central IndiansยทMonday, July 6, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For kickers at 4A programs like Cheyenne Central Indians, developing consistent accuracy and power is crucial. The 3-Step Approach Drill helps build this foundation. Divide players into pairs, with one kicker and one holder. Set up three cones in a row, spaced 5 yards apart. The kicker starts 10 yards back, takes 3 steps towards the holder, and kicks the ball through the cones. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Step, plant, kick' and 'Follow through, follow through.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the kicker's ability to maintain balance and generate power during the approach. It also simulates the pressure of kicking in a game-like situation.
