FridayNightPulse: Power Edge Drill for 4A Defensive Ends
Sheridan Broncs defensive end coach, Tom Johnson, shares a key drill to develop explosive power and edge speed. The Power Edge Drill is a crucial component of pre-season training for 4A programs. To execute this drill, set up a 10-yard box with a 5-yard depth. DEs will start in a 3-point stance, then explosively drive forward, focusing on quick footwork and hands placement. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Drive, don't lean' and 'Hands up, eyes forward.' This drill translates to game performance by improving edge speed, allowing DEs to quickly close gaps and disrupt opposing offenses. By mastering the Power Edge Drill, 4A defensive ends will be better equipped to dominate on the field this season.
