Power Through Contact: A RB Drill for Thunder Basin Bolts
At FridayNightPulse, we're gearing up for the 2026 season with a focus on power and explosiveness for running backs at 4A programs like the Thunder Basin Bolts. One effective drill to improve RBs' ability to power through contact is the 'Box Drill'. Set up a series of 3-4 boxes or cones spaced 3 yards apart. Have the RB start at the first box, then explosively drive through the next two boxes, focusing on keeping their legs and back straight. After each set, have them immediately change direction and repeat. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest in between. Coaching cues include 'drive through the contact' and 'stay low and explosive'. This drill translates to game performance by improving RBs' ability to break tackles and maintain speed through contact, a crucial skill for success in the 4A classification.
