Broncos Blitz: Unlocking Defensive End Potential with the 'Rush and React' Drill
At Sheridan Broncs, 4A powerhouses, we're gearing up for a dominant defensive line performance this season. For defensive ends, one key drill to master is the 'Rush and React' exercise. This drill focuses on explosive acceleration, pad level, and reaction time. Set up cones in a zigzag pattern, 10 yards apart. Players start at the first cone, sprint to the second, then react to a coach's whistle by changing direction and accelerating towards the third cone. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Keep your head up, keep your eyes on the prize,' and 'Drive through the ground, not just your legs.' This drill translates to game performance by developing the quickness and agility needed to beat blockers and get to the quarterback.
