Quarterback Quick Release: A Drill for Thunder Basin Bolts

๐Ÿ“ Thunder Basin BoltsยทTuesday, July 21, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Quarterbacks at 4A programs like the Thunder Basin Bolts need to develop a quick release to evade defenders and complete passes under pressure. One effective drill to improve this skill is the '5-Step Quick Release' drill. Set up five markers 5 yards apart, with a quarterback target at the final marker. Have the QB start at the first marker and sprint to the second, third, and fourth markers, before releasing a pass to the target at the final marker. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on a quick, smooth release. Coaching cues include: 'Step into the throw,' 'Keep your eyes on the target,' and 'Release the ball at the highest point.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the QB's ability to read defenses and quickly release the ball to open receivers.
