Sheridan Broncs Linebackers: Master the 'Read and React' Drill
As the Sheridan Broncs prepare for the upcoming 4A season, linebackers must develop their ability to read and react to the offense. To improve this skill, Coach Thompson recommends the 'Read and React' drill. Set up three cones in a triangular formation, with one cone 5 yards in front of the other two. The linebacker starts at the front cone, then reacts to a quarterback's handoff (simulated by a coach or teammate) to either the left or right cone. The linebacker must quickly read the play and pursue the ball carrier. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues: 'Read the ball, react to the play, and finish the tackle.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the linebacker's ability to diagnose plays and make split-second decisions.
