FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Power Positioning for OL Dominance
For 4A programs like Natrona County Mustangs, dominating in the trenches starts with proper positioning. Introduce the 'Power Position' drill to enhance your OL's ability to control the line of scrimmage. Set up a series of cones to form a 3-yard wide by 5-yard long box. Have OL players start in a 3-point stance with their hands on the ground and feet shoulder-width apart. On the whistle, they must explosively drive their feet into the ground, extending their arms to create a 'power position.' Focus on keeping their back straight, chest up, and weight evenly distributed between both feet. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by allowing OL players to generate power and control from a stable base, making it easier to block and drive defenders off the ball.
