Kicker Prep: Building Power and Accuracy with the 'Drop Step' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Dimond LynxยทFriday, July 3, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the 2026 season approaches, 4A programs like Dimond Lynx are fine-tuning their kicking game. One effective drill to improve power and accuracy is the 'Drop Step' drill. Coaches have their kickers stand 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage, with the ball placed 2 inches off the ground. On the snap, the kicker takes a small step back with their non-kicking foot, then immediately drops into their kicking stance. The kicker should focus on keeping their eyes on the ball and maintaining balance. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving the kicker's ability to quickly adjust to the snap and maintain balance under pressure.
