Unlocking Speed and Agility: DE Drill for 4A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Eagle River WolvesยทThursday, July 9, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

To enhance defensive end performance, the Eagle River Wolves coaching staff recommends incorporating a speed and agility drill into their pre-season training. The 'DE Dash and Cut' drill consists of three sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players start in a three-point stance, then dash 10 yards downfield before cutting 90 degrees to the left or right. Upon reaching the designated cut point, they quickly change direction and sprint back to the starting position. Coaches should emphasize explosive acceleration and sharp, agile cuts. This drill translates to game performance by improving DEs' ability to quickly close gaps and pursue ball carriers in pursuit. The drill also enhances their reaction time and ability to adjust to changing angles.
