Quarterback Quick Release Drill for 3A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Soldotna StarsยทSunday, July 12, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Soldotna Stars prepare for the upcoming 3A football season, quarterbacks will need to focus on quick release and accuracy. To improve these skills, coaches can implement the following drill during summer camp. The Quarterback Quick Release Drill involves 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. The quarterback will start in a shotgun stance, 5 yards behind the center. The coach will call out a target (e.g. 'high left') and the quarterback must release the ball within 2 seconds. The coach will then provide feedback on accuracy and quickness. This drill translates to game performance by improving the quarterback's ability to read defenses and release the ball quickly, allowing for more time to find open receivers. Coaches can also add a twist by moving the target to different locations on the field, simulating game-like situations.
