FridayNightPulse: Tight End Training Tip for 4A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Service CougarsยทTuesday, July 14, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Get your tight ends ready for the season with this drill focused on route running and release off the line of scrimmage. The 'Quick Release' drill is designed to improve a TE's ability to quickly separate from defenders and get into their routes. Set up a 10-yard line with two cones, 5 yards apart. Have your TE start at the line of scrimmage, 3 yards off the cone. On the whistle, they must quickly release off the line and run a 5-yard out route, focusing on speed and agility. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Quick release, quick feet!' and 'Separate, don't collide!' This drill translates to game performance by improving a TE's ability to create separation and get into their routes quickly, making them a more valuable asset to your offense.
