Eagle River Wolves CBs: Master the 'Shadow' Drill for Pre-Season Dominance

๐Ÿ“ Eagle River WolvesยทTuesday, July 14, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

To prepare cornerbacks at 4A programs like Eagle River Wolves for the upcoming season, incorporate the 'Shadow' drill into your training regimen. This drill targets footwork, reaction time, and spatial awareness, essential skills for success in pass coverage. Set up a grid with cones 5 yards apart, forming a 10x10 yard area. Divide players into pairs, with one player (the 'defender') starting at the 5-yard line and the other (the 'receiver') at the 10-yard line. The defender must stay within 1 yard of the receiver, mirroring their every move. After 3 sets of 10 reps, switch roles and repeat. This drill translates to game performance by allowing cornerbacks to develop the agility and instincts necessary to stay with receivers in man coverage.
