Explosive Acceleration Drill for 3A Running Backs
At Soldotna Stars' summer camp, running backs will be putting in extra work on their acceleration with the 'Resist Band Sprint' drill. This drill targets the quick burst of speed needed to break through tackles and gain extra yards after contact. Set up cones 10 yards apart with a resist band anchored to a stable object. Players start at the first cone, then sprint to the second cone while wearing the resist band. Focus on explosive acceleration, keeping the back straight and driving through the ground. Complete 3 sets of 5 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. As players fatigue, increase the resistance of the band. This drill translates to game performance by improving a running back's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate through a hole, making them a more elusive and effective player.
