Defensive End Dominance: The 'Rush and Recover' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Service CougarsยทSaturday, July 18, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For 4A programs like the Service Cougars, developing dominant defensive ends is crucial for success on the gridiron. To help DEs improve their speed, agility, and strength, we recommend the 'Rush and Recover' drill. This high-intensity workout consists of three sets of 10 reps: 1) Sprints of 20 yards at maximum effort, 2) A 10-yard change of direction through a cone drill, and 3) A 5-rep set of box jumps. Coaching cues include 'Explosive off the line,' 'Quick feet,' and 'Land softly.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a DE's ability to quickly close gaps and recover to the ball carrier, making them a more effective pass rusher and run stopper. By incorporating this drill into their pre-season training, DEs can gain a competitive edge and help their team achieve victory.
