What Coaches Look for on Junior Day Visits for DE Prospects

๐Ÿ“ Service CougarsยทSunday, July 19, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As a defensive end prospect at a 4A program like Service Cougars, a junior day visit can be a crucial step in getting noticed by college coaches. During these visits, coaches are looking for specific skills and traits that set you apart from other prospects. First and foremost, they want to see your ability to rush the quarterback. Coaches will evaluate your speed, agility, and technique on the field. For example, can you beat a left tackle with a speed rush? One metric they may use to evaluate this is your 20-yard shuttle time. A time of 4.2 seconds or faster indicates excellent speed and agility. Additionally, coaches will assess your ability to drop into coverage and make plays in space. They want to see your football IQ, work ethic, and ability to learn and adapt to new schemes. By showcasing these skills and traits, you can make a lasting impression on college coaches and take your recruitment to the next level.
