Speed and Agility for S Players: The 5-Yard Shuttle Drill

๐Ÿ“ Dimond LynxยทMonday, July 27, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Dimond Lynx football camp, S players are honing their speed and agility with the 5-Yard Shuttle Drill. This drill targets quick changes of direction and acceleration, essential for S players in 4A programs. To set up, mark two points 5 yards apart on the field. Players start at one point, then sprint to the other, immediately changing direction and sprinting back to the first point. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Fast feet, fast feet,' and 'Change direction quickly.' This drill translates to game performance by improving S players' ability to quickly close gaps and cover receivers in man-to-man coverage. By incorporating the 5-Yard Shuttle Drill into their training, S players can develop the speed and agility needed to excel in 4A football.
