FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Service Cougars' TE Drill
To improve blocking technique for tight ends in 4A programs like the Service Cougars, try this drill: 'The 3-Step Anchor.' Divide players into pairs, with one player as the blocker and the other as the defender. The blocker starts in a 3-point stance, with their feet shoulder-width apart and hands on the ground. On the whistle, the blocker takes 3 quick steps to the side, keeping their feet flat and their weight transfer focused on the back foot. The defender tries to stay in front of the blocker. After 3 sets of 10 reps, switch roles and repeat. Coaching cues include: 'Step, step, step' to emphasize the quick footwork, and 'Weight back' to keep the blocker's weight transfer consistent. This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to quickly get into position and block effectively, especially in pass protection situations.
