Squeeze Drill: Building Strength and Speed for 4A Defensive Ends
In preparation for the upcoming 4A football season, defensive ends at programs like the Service Cougars can benefit from the Squeeze Drill. This exercise targets the critical muscles used in pass rush and tackling, improving overall performance on the field. The drill involves a resistance band or cable attached to a stable anchor point, with the defensive end performing a squeeze motion, extending their arms and then bringing them together to engage the resistance. Perform 3 sets of 12 reps, focusing on quick, explosive movements. Key coaching cues include: 'Squeeze the band, don't just lift it,' and 'Drive your feet, don't just use your arms.' This drill translates to game performance by enhancing the defensive end's ability to generate power and speed off the line of scrimmage, allowing them to effectively rush the quarterback and pressure the opponent's backfield.
