Power Through Contact: A RB Drill for 4A Anchorage Programs

๐Ÿ“ South Anchorage WolverinesยทThursday, July 30, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, South Anchorage Wolverines running backs can take their game to the next level with a powerful contact drill. The 'Power Through' drill targets RBs' ability to break tackles and maintain speed through contact. Set up a series of 3-4 cones or markers, spaced 5 yards apart. RBs start at the first cone, then sprint to the second, where a defender (coach or trainer) is waiting to tackle. The RB must power through the tackle, maintaining speed, and reach the third cone. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Drive through the tackle,' 'Keep your legs pumping,' and 'Finish strong.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching RBs to stay focused and explosive through contact, allowing them to break tackles and gain extra yards. By incorporating this drill into their summer training, Wolverines RBs will be ready to take on the competition in the 4A ASAA playoffs.
