Red Devil QBs: Master the 'Quick Release' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Central-Phenix City Red DevilsยทMonday, July 20, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Central-Phenix City Red Devils quarterback coach, Mark Smith, has a drill that will help his 7A signal-callers develop a quicker release and improve accuracy under pressure. The 'Quick Release' drill involves three sets of 10 reps: 1) Dropback pass from 10 yards, 2) Roll-out pass from 5 yards, and 3) Play-action pass from 10 yards. Coaches cue: 'Release the ball as soon as your eyes leave the receiver's.' This drill translates to game performance by forcing QBs to make quick decisions and release the ball before defenders can close in. It also enhances their ability to read coverage and deliver the ball to the correct spot. By incorporating this drill into their pre-season training, Red Devil QBs will be better equipped to handle the fast-paced 7A competition.
