Buccaneer Blitz: WR Drill to Dominate Downfield
The Hoover Buccaneers are gearing up for another championship run in 7A, and wide receivers will be crucial to their success. To improve downfield separation and ball skills, WR coach Thompson recommends the 'Rabbit Run' drill. Set up cones in a zigzag pattern, 10 yards apart. Have receivers start at one end, sprinting through the course while maintaining a sharp, inside release. After completing the course, they'll catch a pass from a coach or teammate at the far end. Repeat for 3 sets of 5 reps. Coaching cues: 'Keep your eyes on the quarterback, release on the defender's outside shoulder, and explode through the cut.' This drill translates to game performance by improving speed, agility, and the ability to create separation from defenders. It's a must-include in any WR's pre-season training.
