Bulldogs' Linebacker Drill: Speed and Agility for the 6A Gridiron
This summer, the Greenwood Bulldogs are gearing up for another championship run in 6A football. For their linebackers, Coach Thompson has designed a drill to improve speed, agility, and reaction time. The 'L-Drill' consists of three sets of 10 reps: (1) Lateral shuffles with a focus on quick feet and explosive acceleration, (2) Cone drills with rapid changes of direction, and (3) Reaction training with a focus on reading the quarterback's eyes. Coaching cues include 'Fast feet, fast brain' and 'Read and react, don't overthink.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing linebackers to quickly close gaps and make tackles in space. By incorporating the L-Drill into their summer training, the Bulldogs' linebackers will be better equipped to handle the demands of 6A football.
