Speed Bag Drill for 7A Defensive Ends

๐Ÿ“ Bryant HornetsยทThursday, July 9, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the 2026 season approaches, Bryant Hornets defensive ends are gearing up for a strong campaign. One drill that can help improve speed and agility is the speed bag drill. This dynamic exercise targets the fast-twitch muscles in the legs and hips, essential for quick bursts of speed on the field. To set up the drill, place a speed bag at a 45-degree angle and have the DEs wear their helmets and shoulder pads. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick hand movements and explosive footwork. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'light hands.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the DEs' ability to quickly close gaps and chase down ball carriers. By incorporating the speed bag drill into their pre-season training, the Hornets' defensive ends will be well-prepared for the demands of 7A football.
