Saguaro Sabercats S Players: Master the 'Speed Through Holes' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Saguaro SabercatsยทWednesday, July 1, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

S players at 5A programs like the Saguaro Sabercats need to be quick and agile to evade defenders. To improve their speed and agility, Coach Thompson recommends the 'Speed Through Holes' drill. Set up 5-6 cones in a zig-zag pattern, spaced 3-4 yards apart. Players start at one end and weave through the cones, focusing on quick footwork and change of direction. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'quick feet,' 'low center of gravity,' and 'eyes up.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a player's ability to change direction quickly and avoid tackles. It also enhances their vision and spatial awareness, allowing them to read the defense and make split-second decisions.
