Finishing Drills for 5A Defensive Ends: Desert Edge Scorpions Prepare for the Season

๐Ÿ“ Desert Edge ScorpionsยทThursday, July 2, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Desert Edge Scorpions prepare for the upcoming 5A season, defensive ends must develop the skills to finish plays and secure tackles. One effective drill to achieve this is the 'Finisher's Bag Drill'. Set up 3-4 cones in a line, 5 yards apart, with a tackle bag attached to each cone. Defensive ends will start at the first cone, then sprint to the second cone, where they'll hit the bag with a tackle. The key coaching cue is to 'keep the feet moving, don't get stuck on the bag'. This drill translates to game performance by improving a defensive end's ability to quickly change direction and finish plays. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets, to improve speed and agility in pursuit of the quarterback.
