FridayNightPulse Training Tip: LB Drill for 6A Programs
For 6A programs like Chandler Wolves, linebackers need to be prepared for the physicality and speed of 6A opponents. To improve their ability to read and react to plays, we recommend the 'Reaction to the Run' drill. Set up three cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Have a running back or a coach carry the ball through the cones, simulating a zone read play. Linebackers must react quickly to the ball carrier, using proper footwork and tackling technique. Start with 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick reactions and sound tackling. Coaching cues include 'read the ball, not the runner' and 'stay low, stay fast.' This drill translates to game performance by improving linebackers' ability to read and react to plays, allowing them to make tackles in space and limit opponents' yards after contact.
