Chandler Wolves TE Drill: 'Route Box' Work
๐ Chandler WolvesยทThursday, July 9, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider
The Chandler Wolves' tight end coach, Mark Smith, shares a drill designed to improve TE route running and footwork. The 'Route Box' drill involves setting up four cones in a square formation, 5 yards apart. The TE starts at the top of the square and must run a 5-yard out route, then a 5-yard in route, and finally a 5-yard dig route. The TE must touch the cone with their outside hand on each route. Smith recommends 3 sets of 5 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. The coaching cue is to 'keep the feet light and the hands active.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to quickly change direction and get in and out of breaks, creating separation from defenders.
