Perry Pumas Prepare for 6A Showdown with Speed Drills

๐Ÿ“ Perry PumasยทSaturday, July 11, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For wide receivers at 6A powerhouses like the Perry Pumas, speed and agility are crucial components of their game. To improve their quickness and reaction time, the Pumas' coaching staff has implemented a 3-round speed ladder drill. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, then quickly move their feet through a ladder, focusing on rapid foot speed and change of direction. Coaching cues include 'explosive acceleration' and 'quick feet.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a receiver's ability to create separation from defenders and quickly get in and out of breaks. The Pumas will run this drill 3 times a week leading up to the season opener, with a focus on increasing speed and agility.
