Desert Edge Scorpions' CB Coach Shares Top Drill for Summer Camp
The Desert Edge Scorpions' cornerbacks will be put to the test this season, but Coach Thompson has a drill to get them ready. The 'Shadow Drill' is a staple of the Scorpions' summer camp, and it's designed to improve reaction time and footwork. Here's how to run it: Set up cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Have players start at the first cone, then react to a coach's signal to 'shadow' a receiver. They must quickly change direction and mirror the receiver's movements. Do 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cue: 'Stay on their hip, don't let them get behind you.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a CB's ability to stay with receivers in man coverage and react quickly to changes in the play.
