FridayNightPulse: Chandler Wolves DEs Get Ready for Season with 'Speed to Power' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Chandler WolvesยทThursday, July 16, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

High school defensive ends at 6A programs like Chandler Wolves are looking to make a name for themselves this season. To improve their speed and power, coaches can run the 'Speed to Power' drill. Players start in a three-point stance, then explosively drive through a set of resistance bands or mini hurdles. They focus on keeping their back straight and driving their feet into the ground. The goal is to generate 10-15 yards of speed in 3 seconds. Coaches should have players repeat this drill for 3 sets of 5 reps. This drill translates to game performance by improving a DE's ability to quickly close the gap and make tackles in the backfield. It also enhances their ability to chase down ball carriers and make plays in space.
