Perry Pumas Tight End Training: 'Shuttle Release' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Perry PumasยทTuesday, July 21, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

FridayNightPulse brings you expert training tips for 6A Arizona high school football teams. For tight ends, the 'Shuttle Release' drill is a game-changer. Divide players into pairs, with one TE as the receiver and the other as the passer. The passer lines up 5 yards behind the receiver, who starts at the 10-yard line. The passer calls out a color (red or blue), and the receiver must quickly release to the designated side, then immediately return to the starting position. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cue: 'Explosive release, smooth return.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to quickly release from the line of scrimmage and re-establish position, creating mismatches and separation from defenders. It also enhances their agility and reaction time.
