Perry Pumas' Pre-Season LB Drill: 'The Circle Crossover'
To improve tackling efficiency and reaction time, Perry Pumas' linebackers will focus on 'The Circle Crossover' drill during pre-season training. This drill requires players to start in a 3-point stance, then quickly move laterally 5 yards to the left, plant their outside foot, and pivot 180 degrees to face the opposite direction. From this new position, they must explode forward, covering 10 yards, and make a tackle on a stationary bag or sled. The player then repeats the drill, moving laterally to the right. Aim for 3 sets of 5 reps on each side. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'aggressive pursuit.' This drill translates to game performance by improving LBs' ability to read and react to plays, as well as their ability to quickly change direction and pursue the ball.
