The Serra Cavaliers, a CIF Southern Section Open Division program from Gardena, celebrated the groundbreaking of a $2 million facility upgrade on Thursday. The Cavaliers have been a consistent playoff contender in recent years, with a 2022 postseason run that ended in the semifinals. The upgrade, which includes new locker rooms, weight rooms and field turf, is expected to give the program a competitive edge in the highly competitive Open Division. The Cavaliers have been attracting top talent from the South Bay area, with several Division I recruits already committed to the program. The upgrade is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2026 season.
