Folsom Bulldogs QBs: Master the 'Read and React' Drill for Pre-Season Success

๐Ÿ“ Folsom BulldogsยทTuesday, July 7, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Folsom Bulldogs prepare for another 5A title run, quarterback development is key. To improve decision-making and accuracy, implement the 'Read and React' drill at your next summer camp or practice. Divide the quarterbacks into pairs, with one player as the 'reader' and the other as the 'target'. The reader will call out a play (e.g. 'slant' or 'out') while the target will react with a specific movement (e.g. 'slant' = 3-step drop, 'out' = 5-step drop). Start with 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick reads and accurate throws. Coaching cues: 'Read the defense, react to the coverage.' This drill translates to game performance by forcing QBs to process information quickly and make split-second decisions, a critical skill for success in the CIF 5A playoffs.
