FridayNightPulse: Raptors Ramp Up RB Performance with the 'Hill Sprinter' Drill
At 5A programs like Eaglecrest Raptors, running back performance can be the difference between a winning season and a losing one. To take their RBs to the next level, Raptors coaches are incorporating the 'Hill Sprinter' drill into their pre-season training. This drill targets explosive acceleration and top-end speed. The setup: 3-4 cones or markers in a zig-zag pattern on a 20-yard hill. Players start at the bottom, sprinting to the top, and then immediately repeat for 3 sets of 5 reps. Coaching cues: 'Drive your feet, don't just push off.' 'Keep your eyes up, focus on the finish line.' This drill translates to game performance by replicating the explosive bursts required to break tackles and gain extra yards after contact. It also builds endurance for the physical demands of a 5A football season.
