Building a Stronger Line: The Southington Blue Knights' OL Drill
At the start of the pre-season, the Southington Blue Knights' offensive line is focusing on developing their strength and technique through a series of drills. One key exercise is the 'Medicine Ball Slam.' This drill targets the OL's ability to explosively generate power and transfer it to the defender. To perform the drill, have the OL player stand with their feet shoulder-width apart and hold a medicine ball at chest level. On the coach's signal, the player slams the ball to the ground, then immediately recovers into a pass-blocking stance. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick, powerful movements. Coaching cues include 'slam the ball' and 'recover fast.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing OL players to develop the explosive power needed to drive block and seal off defenders.
