FridayNightPulse: Tight End Training Tip
At this time of year, Tight Ends (TEs) at lower level programs like Maloney Spartans are focusing on developing their blocking skills. One effective drill to improve their technique is the 'Boxer Shuffle Block' drill. Set up cones in a zig-zag pattern, with TEs starting at one end. On the whistle, they must 'box out' a defender, then shuffle their feet to the next cone, and finally, explode into a block. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'box out, don't get hit,' and 'shuffle, don't slip.' This drill translates to game performance by improving footwork, hand placement, and overall blocking efficiency. By mastering the Boxer Shuffle Block, TEs will be better equipped to seal the edge and create holes for their running backs.
