FridayNightPulse: 'Spartan Stance' Drill for Linebacker Development
At Maloney High School, we're gearing up for another competitive season with the Spartans. For our linebacker corps, we're focusing on building strength, agility, and instincts through a drill we call 'Spartan Stance'. This 3-part drill consists of: 3 sets of 10 reps of lateral shuffles (20 yards each way), 3 sets of 15 reps of single-leg hops (5 yards), and 3 sets of 10 reps of 'react and close' drills (5 yards). Coaching cues include: 'Keep your feet shoulder-width apart' and 'Drive through your back leg'. This drill translates to game performance by improving our linebackers' ability to quickly change direction and close gaps, making them more effective in pursuit and tackling. By incorporating the 'Spartan Stance' drill into our summer training, we're confident our linebackers will be ready to make a big impact this fall.
