Shelton Gaels WRs: Master the 3-Step Release Drill
This summer, Shelton Gaels wide receivers can dominate the competition with the 3-Step Release Drill. This drill focuses on quick separation and precise route running. To set up, divide the group into pairs with one player as the receiver and the other as the defender. The receiver starts 5 yards off the line, with the defender in a press alignment. On the coach's signal, the receiver takes 3 steps: a small step back, a step to the side, and a step forward. The defender must react and stay with the receiver. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cue: 'Quick feet, quick hands.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching receivers to create separation without burning themselves out. It also helps them develop the ability to read defenders and adjust their route on the fly.
