FridayNightPulse Training Tip: TE Dominance with the 'Box Out' Drill
At the lower-level programs like Southington Blue Knights, Tight End play can be a game-changer. To develop the skills needed to excel in this position, we're introducing the 'Box Out' drill. This exercise targets the TE's ability to secure passes in traffic and maintain possession. To set up the drill, divide the TEs into pairs. One player will be the receiver, and the other will be the defender. The receiver will line up 5 yards from the defender, who will be in a 'box' stance. On the coach's signal, the receiver will release and the defender will attempt to knock the ball away. The receiver must use their hands and body to secure the catch. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'Box out, hands in' and 'Secure the catch.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching TEs to be physical and confident in traffic, a crucial skill for success at the TE position.
